Just 20 km south of Ravenna, right on the coast with a 10 km long beach of fine sand and shallow water, is the municipality of Cervia which embraces the three villages Cervia, Milano Marittima with its elegant hotels and Pinarella.
Since 1973 it was awarded with the Blue Flag of Europe (for good water quality) for the fifth time.
Cervia is not just a modern resort but also an old salt city: in the former salt warehouses will be events, the Museum of Salt culture has its headquarters there.
Furthermore, it has a historic center with the cathedral, the town hall, the theater and the tower of San Michele. It represents the modern part of the so-called "floating carpet", a beautiful fountain of colorful mosaics.
The Spas of Cervia lure with its precious lagoon mud Liman and its curing water, extracted from the salt flats, which lie in a 827-hectare-large nature reserve. This area, the southern part of the Po Delta Natural Park, serves as breeding and nesting place for many species of birds.
Cervia you will not bore, guaranteed. There are countless celebrations, such as "the wedding of the sea," the "San Lorenzo Festival", the Salt Festival (Festa del Sale), International Puppet Festival, a Kite Festival, an int Dance Festival and the "Palio of the Boating Party", a competition among lifeguards. Even in winter Cervia is cheerful with its Christmas market "Winter Lights".
